Glitz, Glam, and Baseball - Seattle Boudoir Session

Yeah, you read that right- Baseball. Remember me saying how much I LOVE my returning clients last week? Well Michelle here is one of those special clients that has let me be a part of her life by capturing her love for her husband, and for herself.

I was lucky enough to capture Michelle & Brian's intimate wedding last November, and to simply meet some of the most lovely people by going outside of my normal genre. Michelle & Brian's love for each other is apparent in all of their wedding images, but oh my! Brian is such a lucky guy to have found such a loving, strong, and gorgeous woman to stand by his side! (Of course Michelle thinks she's pretty dang lucky, too!)

I was ecstatic when Michelle told me she wanted to do a Boudoir shoot for Brian for Valentine's Day, not only because I would get to see her again, but because I was so proud of her courage to do so! (I'm seriously the worst when it comes to getting in front of the camera, and doing a boudoir shoot adds a ton of stress for most women!) But as you can see, she's not only beautiful on the inside and out, she's also ridiculously creative! Michelle and Brian both play baseball, and are passionate about it, so it was only fitting we do some sexy baseball shots, right?

Overall, this woman oozes glamour, refinement, and confidence. I feel so lucky to have captured the love she has for her husband, and to see her celebrate herself in such a way, too! Love ya, Michelle!

Farewell for Now - Personal Shoot

Again- I'm a bit behind on blogging, but the emotion is still fresh. My mom, along with my step dad and four siblings, moved to Missouri at the end of February for a fresh start. While they had been talking about it for a while, and it seemed like it would never actually happen, one day everything just fell into place, and they were moved before I felt I could really digest it. But that's life, I suppose- you never know what tomorrow may bring, so treat each precious day as if it were your last. (My youngest brother is not pictured, as he was too little to come outside in the cold, but I of course love him, too!)

Back story: I was an only child until I was 14 years old (in my household). I finished high school with two baby siblings, and shortly thereafter had a third. I got married two years ago, and shortly after that was big sister again (they're done now, hehe). I was the built in baby sitter (lucky me, right?), but because of the huge gap in our ages, I've always felt a little more than a sibling's responsibility for them. It was difficult for me to move from Vancouver, WA to Seattle, WA and be away from them when I got married, but knowing they were within driving distance soon helped me overcome my irrational feelings that I was somehow neglecting them.

To the present: I still feel a little helpless, like I won't be able to really "be there" for my little brothers when they need advice about mom, or girls at church or school, or that my one baby sister (okay, she's almost 7, but still little) will start to forget how much her big sissy loves her. I want ever so much to be a part of their lives, to watch them grow up, not just hear them over the photo or in grainy cell phone pictures. I want to take their pictures with my "fancy" camera, and spend hours editing them and making scrapbooks and photo albums with their images, just because I can. But those days are gone- my siblings are now 2000 miles away from me, way outside of driving distance, and flying is way too expensive to make a habit of that, too.

So I'm left with memories of our last visit together, spending the day at my great-grandmother's house, walking around the neighborhood after dinner, enjoying the infectious laughter and joy that they have.

Welcome Home, Daddy

I love my returning clients. Of course I love all my clients, but when you come BACK? It means the world to me! Not only does it tell me that you love and appreciate my photography and all the work I put into it, but it shows me that you trust me enough to share your family's memories with me, and put the preservation of those precious memories in my hands.

Mari & her daughter, Lilly (LOVE that name!) came to see me for a Mini Session last October, right before her first birthday. It was Lilly's first photo session, and she wasn't too sure about me and my camera; but with help from her mom, and a TON of silly faces from me, we got some adorable shots to send to her daddy, who was currently deployed with the Navy. I was overjoyed when Mari told me she wanted me to do their family pictures when her husband returned, so in mid-January we braved the cold, skipped the Seahawks game that was playing (yeah...I'm behind on blogging), and captured some amazing memories for this sweet family!

Being a military wife myself, I have a huge respect for other military families, and that sacrifice that they make. But I also have a lot of respect just watching this man interact with his family- the love he has for his wife and daughter is just so apparently, you can instantly pick up that they are his whole world.

This little girl loves her mommy, but it was so touching to see her interact with her daddy that she is still just getting to know. Kids are smart, they know who loves them, even if they don't understand just how important that person will be in their life. I can't wait to watch this family grow together, whether they add another child or simply grow older and closer together- growth is a beautiful thing!

I know that you all will join me in wishing this family the happiest memories in years to come!

Some Romance and a Big Red Barn

Families come in all shapes and sizes - there's the family with 5 kids, and the family with pets for kids, and the family with no kids. As much as I love children, and as much as Jenni and Mark are excited to have kids, right now they are enjoying their time with just the two of them, and we had a blast capturing their love for one another.

This red barn is right on their way to work each morning, and Jenni has been in love with it for AGES. As soon as we started discussing her session, she let me know that she wanted to have their photos taken there (the images are enough to tell you why). So after a quick phone call, and permission from the owners, we were good to go, and a week later we were there shooting!

I seriously just love these two. They are both from Missouri, and moved out here in search of jobs (which they are now both blessed with), but the country is still in them. This seriously was the BEST location for these two, and I can't wait to see how they use these images in their new home they just bought (congrats!). I'll let the images do the rest of the talking for these love birds, I hope you enjoy them as much as they do!

Adventures in Downtown Snohomish

I love that I get a 3 day weekend from my day job- it gives me a whole extra day "off" to take care of my photography business, and sometimes I even have time to just have fun! Yesterday was one of those days where after I did some housework, I still had half the day while the husband was at work to go out and do something I've been wanting to do for WEEKS: visit downtown Snohomish.

I've been living in the Seattle area for about 2.5 years now, and I still feel like I'll never know the area! But now that I finally know Mukilteo fairly well (where I live), I've been trying to get to know the surrounding areas. And with all my friends telling me how cute Downtown Snohomish is, naturally it came next on my list!

Of course I can never just go anywhere without thinking "oooh there's a good spot for pictures!" or "oooh antique store! I need to go look for props." So while I had fun, and didn't necessarily buy anything related to photography, this place is going to become a fast favorite with me for my photography clients!

By the time I got there, a lot of the small businesses were closed or closing up soon, so I had to jet through the stores WAY faster than I wanted. But two stores just sucked me in and wouldn't let me leave without buying something! (I know...bummer, right?)
Glitter & Ivy was the first to pull me in.

If you know me, you know I LOVE all things vintage, whether it's actually vintage or just a recreation in the vintage style. And wouldn't you know it, that is Glitter & Ivy in a nutshell! I walked into the most adorably decorated shop, and was immediately overwhelmed with the vintage merchandise and the smell - OH MY WORD. Heavenly. I was reminded of all those visits to antique shops, thrift stores, and small businesses I made with my grandmother when I was younger. It instantly put a smile on my face! So of course, being reminded of my grandmother, I had to buy her something. I left with the most adorable cards & stationary!

The next store that sucked me in - they sucked me ALL the way in (I was there until they were closed). This place was HUGE. Everywhere I turned, there was something glorious that I needed. The store: Joyworks.

Okay, so you know I love vintage in all forms- so let me explain why I could not leave this store. You walk into the main entrance, and have three options: Left, to shop the most GORGEOUS selection of women's clothing; Right, to shop some ADORABLE baby clothes along with bath & body and stationary lovelies; or Down, to shop SO MANY kinds of home decor.

I went left first, drawn by the lace... I'm a sucker for lace (ask my husband- it drives him nuts). After practically drooling on everything over there, I made my way over to the baby stuff (I cataloged it all for future reference), and made note of all the adorable stationary and bath items (um, hello, presents anyone?). Then I made the descent to the Home Goods - holy madness. I think I turned around in more circles down there than I ever have. They have all their decor in different sectioned displays- it was magic. I don't know how I didn't come home with a whole new house! They had retro, farmhouse, cabin, shabby chic, and so many more different styles of home decor! I can't wait to go back and dig around more with my hubby!

So what did I leave with? A couple amazing headbands and an adorable mini purse that will be fantastic for photo shoots and date nights when I want to carry light!

So there you have it! Two stores you HAVE to go see next time you're in Downtown Snohomish!
