New Year, New Site, New Blog

New Year's Resolutions are typically thrown out after a week or two; life gets too busy to work out, or eat healthy, and you start to loose your resolve to stay off Facebook... Ahem.

We all know it-- but we still make these resolutions each year. WHY?

Because there is always room for improvement. We will always strive to be that better, smarter, sexier, more successful version of ourselves. And yet we constantly find ourselves falling short.

My theory? Because a lot of our resolutions aren't made for US-- they're made for OTHERS.

What? Isn't doing things for others supposed to be a good thing?

Yes. It totally is. But not when it comes to YOUR life. You will always find when you do something for YOU, you tend to go farther, to stick to it longer. Exercising to stay healthy for you so you feel better will get you more motivated than exercising to be thinner to impress your coworkers or friends will. Get it?

So when I sat down to think about my resolutions for the year 2014, the first thing I had to do was figure out which things were for ME, and which ones were really for others. So no, I didn't make any resolutions to eat better or work out more- I know it's not going to happen. I watch what I eat, and am relatively active, but I hate workouts and most healthy foods on a regular basis. I would have been setting myself up to fail.

Alright, so what IS my main goal for this year? Well really, I simply just want to BE HAPPY. That's all. Seems simple, right? It should be-- but we live in a world where the standard of perfection is set so high, the majority of us will not be considered successful enough to be happy. But I'm going to try. And here's how I'm doing it.

First day of the new year, I dove straight into my photography. It's my passion, it's what I love, and someday, it will provide for me to stay home and be a MOM (when we get around to children). It calms me, makes me happy, and it is a way for me to BLESS people. Which also makes me happy.

I've revamped my website. I've redesigned my pricing & packages for what I KNOW I am worth- and let me tell you, it was hard for me to change this up. I don't like change, and I don't like disappointing people. I may loose some of my former clients. But this is what works for me, and it's the direction I see my business, and my life, going this year.

And now that it's DONE, I plan to make sure my photography does not take away time from my husband. Our time was severely cut into this last fall because I was so busy with photography, on top of my already full time day job. This made both of us unhappy, and as you know, that is the OPPOSITE of my goal for this coming year. So no, I won't be taking 20 sessions this October.

That's my simple game plan. Yeah, I know I'm still going to slip up this year-- it's human nature to "fail". But it's the mistakes and failures that I will LEARN from, that will turn my life, and business, into a HAPPY, successful goal. I will meet my mistakes with a good spirit, because I know they will challenge me to find the lesson to be learned. And as I make less mistakes, I will know more, and one day, I hope to be able to share my lessons with others.

So now, to end this:

To all of you that have followed me over the last year- THANK YOU for your support, and for dealing with my many changes and musings. I'm going to be staying here for a while :)

To any new followers, I also would like to thank you for reading this ridiculous rant, and for spending a few minutes in my world. It gets crazy sometimes.

Here's to my leap into 2014-- I look forward to all the new relationships I gain through this passion of mine.
May your year be blessed with happiness, and may all your endeavors succeed.

                                                              Much Love,
